UNM Business Plan Competition
A Path To Entrepreneurship
The UNM Business Plan Competition offers a high-profile, real-world challenge at the University of New Mexico where student teams present business ideas to judges from the local entrepreneurial, industry and government sectors to compete for startup funding and other prizes in two competitive categories. The Competition offers the participating teams exposure to community business leaders and to potential funding from venture capitalists for their firms.
Over the past 10 years, the UNM Business Plan Competition has awarded $575,000 in prize money to 45 student companies in the past 10 years.
Student teams can qualify to compete in the Technology Ventures Track by utilizing Intellectual Property developed by UNM students or from Sandia National Labs, Los Alamos National Labs, or STC.UNM.
Startup concepts that do not involve Intellectual Property qualify for the Entrepreneurial Ventures Track, which features generalist startup ventures.
Students should check with Dr. Sul Kassicieh, Director of the UNM Business Plan Competition, email@example.com, as early in the process as possible, but no later than January 29, 2016 if they are not certain which competition track is a better fit.
Who is eligible to participate?
Current students across all UNM schools and colleges, including graduate, undergraduate, as well as alumni who have graduated since January 1, 2010, are eligible to compete. Teams can include an experienced partner or mentor from the business or investment community. Team registration, "Intent to Present," is open until February 2, 2016; however, it is recommended that teams organize during fall semester in order to be well-prepared for the competition on April 8, 2016.
